The Nike Air Jordan 11 ‘Bred’, with it’s iconic Black, Red and White, is one of the standout styles in the history of the franchise. It possesses the winning combination of timeless visual appeal and a historically significant backstory. Now this classic colourway of a classic silhouette is back just in time for the giving season.
The ‘Bred’ (Black/Red) colourway was the first Air Jordan 11 to be seen by the world. Michael was sporting them as he led the Chicago Bulls through the 1996 playoffs. He had just returned from his infamous first retirement, so all eyes were on him, and his groundbreaking new shoes. Nothing like them had been seen before, as designer Tinker Hatfield had once again redefined the limits of footwear construction. They made a lasting impression on the sneaker buying public and have been a fan favourite ever since.
By the mid 90’s Hatfield had a highly productive working relationship with MJ. Since they first worked together on the Air Jordan 3, he had made sure that the star player was intimately involved in the development of each new design. With the 11, Hatfield had used Michael’s love of convertible sports cars as a creative jumping off point. The polished bodywork is represented in the band of patent leather that wraps around the body of the shoe. The padded, breathable mesh build above this is the equivalent of a luxury motor’s plush interior. Instead of the sturdy chassis that at the core of a high performance car, Hatfield inserted a carbon plate into the central midsole to give improved support and stability.
As Nike have stated, the Bred addition of the Air Jordan 11 is an “all time favorite”. This retro release of the OG colourway comes with all the original graphics, design features and box.
