Brand History
Stussy is one of the oldest streetwear labels with over 30 years of experience in the field. The company was founded in 1980 by Shawn Stussy from Laguna Beach. Stussy was a surfboard producer and one day applied his now infamous tag to a t shirt instead of a board. Before long his clothing had become popular with the Californian surf community and he was able to expand the line of products. Although he was still selling these tees, caps and shorts out of the back of his car.

The timing was perfect and Stussy, along with several other brands, rode the wave of popularity that hit surfwear in the nineteen eighties. In 1984 Stussy partnered up with his friend Frank Sinatra Jr to sell apparel. By 1988 the company had expanded into Europe and had opened a flagship boutique store in SoHo, New York.

The brand continued to expand throughout the nineties. In 1992 the companies revenues had reached $20 million. The brand was now sold throughout the world in specialist boutiques and streetwear shops along with other high-end designer brands.

Stussy resigned as the president of the company in 1996 and Frank Sinatra Jr bought out his share of the company holdings. The ethos of the brand set in place by it's founder did not change though and although their output has evolved over the years it is still always recognisably Stussy.
