The two founders of the brand Joshy D and Mike Giant met in the Late nineties, while they were both involved in San Fransisco's lively graffiti scene. Mike was already a legend in the city and beyond for his graffiti pieces and Josh was running a popular graffiti website called HiFiArt.
Rebel8 are a brand that stayed true to the roots, even 9 years on. Still based around the amazing creative work of Mike Giant, who has been producing artwork for the brand ever since it was founded in 2003, the brand consistently produce amazing products. Pulling on references from their background, the designs are heavily influenced by graffiti and tattoos.
The latest set of products from the brand are no different, but as many people will argue, that's a good thing. Staying true to their roots, Rebel8 have produced some incredible hand-rendered artwork, straight from the pen of Mike Giant. It's hard to believe, but there's no computer trickery or digital enhancement involved in producing the graphics, and every tee is a piece of true art in itself.
This Holiday season sees some more beautifully illustrated young women in the form of their 'Lusty Lady', Vintage Rosalie' and 'Do Or Die' designs. 'Vintage Rosalie' is particularly interesting, as it's a combination of photography and illustration work. The photo print of a young woman has Mike Giants tattoo designs adorning her body, and travelling up onto her face. The design is along the same lines as their infamous Marilyn Monroe graphic.
All type is hand-rendered by Giant, and the selection of simple logo tees feature his typographic skills once again, providing some great subtle designs that complement the detailed illustration work perfectly.
