Brand History
Rumour has it that Mishka was started after two kids got their hands on an evil black metal album and played it backwards as a homage to Satan. Others say it was started by two guys called Greg and Mikhail who were sick of doing design work for other people and wanted to follow there own creative direction. There influences are noticably different to other streetwear brands, focusing more on punk rock and horror comics than bling, money and guns.

In their own words: "We just gravitate towards the obscure and oddball. We understand that only a handful of people will get our references, but we try to balance that by presenting them in a strong visual manner that anyone can enjoy without fully understanding it.....We continue to love what we design. We make things that we want to wear. We are weird oddball kids and I think the brands reflects that."

Mishka offers a full collection ranging from denim and tees to outerwear and accessories, all in their unique fashion.

Artist Collaborations
While most companies often lose consistency when they do artist collaborations, Mishka works closely with emerging artists to make sure graphics are both fresh, and purely Mishka. They have worked with several talented comic artists in the past including: Andy Rementer, Jon Vermilyea and Dennis Chow. According to Mishka there are several collaborations in the pipe line including a project with talented NY artist and designer JK5.

The Future of the Brand
Mishka is still a relatively small company with a handful of people doing several jobs each. According to a statement made in an interview for French street culture magazine Clark they are recruiting new sales reps all the time and making new deals with regional distributors.

According to Mikhail: "Regardless of how big things grow, at the end of the day our main concern is to just be 'us' and stay true to a style we've cultivated and people have grown to love....In the end, regardlessof what stores we're in or not in, Mishka won't comprimise it's identity and style."

Recent Mishka News
Mishka's Death Adder seems to represent a lot for the brand. Not only is it one of their core graphics that has helped Mishka become an internationally recognized and respected brand, it has of late become the mascot for a non existant American football team. The branded helmet to be worn by these imaginary athletes is the main graphic on the 'ETD' (Engineered To Destroy) tees and crews that came with drop 1 of Fall '11.

The 'Death Adders Football' tee with a simpler and more compact design on the front, is further promotion for this team with no home...or players. As Mishka say on their site:  "If you hate real football then maybe get into our fake football team. It's the most monstrous one you could ever imagine."  Indeed, going with the usual aesthetic tastes of these lot you can imagine that the team photo would possibly give you bad dreams and definitely make you very glad you never persued a career in the NFL.

The meanest snakey bear around also appears in new colourways in his 'Oversized' version on several new tees and heavyweight crews and on what Mishka have described as 'the bossest jackets we've ever made.' This varsity jacket is pure quality and full of brilliant embroidered/towel fabric details. Check out the detail page here.

Past news
It's been a while since this section was last updated and there has been a load of weird and wonderful stuff to have come from that outlandish streetwear brand Mishka. There's a good deal of Death Adders, Bearmops and Keep Watch eyeballs in new guises as well as some dope snapbacks.

D.A.R.T (Death Adder Road and Track) is the Mishka fixed gear racing team and a line of apparel has been produced themed around the team and the ever-growing riding seen. The 'D.A.R.T World' tee features a retro styled circular design featuring a globe surrounded by a bike cog with 'Death Adders 1978' rendered across the center in a rounded seventies font. The bright colours and Death Adder at the top of the design give it that definite Mishka look, but this line does seem to have a more sporty, clean cut look to the brands usual output. Watch this space for more from the D.A.R.T line.

This next 'Keep Watch Crest' tee is supposed to emphasize that Mishka is a quickly expanding brand that is sold in outlets across the globe. The Keep Watch eyeball is surrounded by a black band with 'Brooklyn - Tokyo - Los Angeles' placed on it in white letters, with 'Keep Watch' rendered on a white scroll across the bottom. A simple, standout design in really nice colourways.

The Bearmop is the core graphic that Mishka have reworked and adapted the most over the years. However at the moment we have a multitude of pieces featuring the original and much loved graffiti bear. We've got a big selection of 'Oversized Mop' crewnecks in a variation of colour-ways and the tried and tested 'Bearmop' tees with himself printed in glowing neon colours.

The most unusual of the current tees we have in stock has got to be the 'GPKill with Power' tee that features a large square front print rendered in the style of the Garbage Pail Kids colllectable cards that were big in the eighties. You remember, they used to come with some horrible bubble gum and featured some brilliantly illustrated characters. It works really well as a tee.

The snapbacks that we've recently got in have ben selling like no one business.  There's a Starter collab design called the 'Crylillic Pro' that features a simple design of the keep watch eyeball on top of some heavy type and also a 'High Impact' hat that matches the tee of the same name. It features the Death Adder contained within block type reading 'Death Adders'. This one was so popular that it sold out before I had time to write this. Snapbacks are big news at the moment. A dope design flies out the shop in a matter of days.

New plaid shirts have just arrived from those Brooklyn boys Mishka. Made with quality materials and plaid designs in strong colours and each featuring a small Mishka logo these shirts are banging and a top addition to your summer wardrobe. They're is also a fine new selection of Mishka New Era fitted and snapback caps in stock now!

Mishka first drop of the year, is full of fresh new goodies for you to dig your teeth into. The Mishka deliveries are always split into two with the tees coming in first and the cut and sew stuff following. The tees that stand out are the Oversized Death Adder Tee, and the Ask No Questions Tee, of course there is the the standard Bear Mop switched up in this pixel format which looks fresh.

Season after season 5 Pointz will be stocking the full range of Mishka Products.
