Supra: The Skytop III lands at 5Pointz next week!

Several colourways of the long-awaited Skytop 3 are winging their way to us as we speak. Once again they have teamed up with pro skater Chad Muska to produce a groundbreaking high top shoe that fits nicely into skate and streetwear culture. This brand new silhouette from Supra has taken them in a different directon design wise with clear influences from classic 90's basketball boots.

The rubber plates reaching up both sides and the thicker sole with it's curved definition mean this silhouette has a more sporty look than it's predessors and suggests maybe Supra are reaching for a wider audience. Whatever the priorities were when Chad and the like were planning the construction of this shoe, I reckon it's resulted in an undeniably sick piece of footwear.

You may notice I have clearly stolen these images from Sneakerfreaker, as our photographer is yet to shoot these beauties, but the angles and lighting may be different on our pics, but it's the same shoe.  The first drop which is going online NEXT WEEK contains the black and grey colourways and there are white and red versions following very soon...

I really like the angles along the top of the midsole. Reminiscent of some classic Jordans perhaps. The contrast between the suede of the uppers and the matt texture of the lace plates and heel handle really brings out the shape...

...and here's a pic that clearly shows they come in twos. Piece of luck. So, NEXT WEEK people...get your Skytop 3's on.

Supra Skytop 3: a closer look.

Supra

Supra has in a relatively short space of time become an internationally respected footwear brand that produces groundbreaking silhouettes that influence the output of much bigger, well established manufacturers. The original Skytop which has been in production for over 5 years now changed the game as far as high tops are concerned. The Skytop II followed suit in 2009 and now the Skytop III has landed and looks to possibly have the biggest impact so far on the sneaker landscape.

The infamous pro skater Chad Muska is has once again been involved in the development on this latest project. He describes them as 'part tech-runner and part basketball shoe' and influence has clearly been taken from both the present skate scene and classic basketball silhouettes of the nineties.

They have been getting some bad write-ups on some blogs due to the obvious similarity in the shape of the sole to the Air Jordan. The influence is undeniable but the shape is different enough to be called homage and not just a blatant rip off. I think this step away from the flat edge to the sole gives the Skytop 3 a more considered shape than previous Supra kicks. Die hard Skytop fans may well be offended by this move away from the norm, but the Skytop is still freely available if that's what you want.

Anyway lets take a look at what Muska and the Supra team have come up with. Here's the Grey Suede colourway:

Supra Skytop 3 Grey Suede / Grey / White

The plastic plates that rise up both sides from the sole have been another bone of contention online. I think it emphasizes the shape of the shoe and the matt finish on them contrasts in a satisfying way against the fabric of the uppers.

I like the lines cut into the plastic plates too. Gives the silhouette more definition. The subtle 'cut-out' branding is a nice touch too.

A nice addition to the Skytop III is the removable EVA pod air capsule that can be seen through the undersole. This provides extra comfort and protection from heel impact for all you skaters. Here it is removed from the Black Nubuck numbers. Bouncy bounce:

Supra Skytop 3 Black Nubuck / Black / White

The nubuck works nicely against the plastic details as does the suede on the greys. That handle on the heel is another nice touch to bring out the mid shape and counter balance the thick sole.

Despite these Skytop 3's being a big step away from Supras normal output I think they stay true to the companires design ethos and have used mixed influences to come up with a winner.

A shed load of Mitchell and Ness snapbacks!

Mitchell and Ness

As was mentioned a few blogs back we've been eagerly awaiting the first drop of pro-sport snapback caps from the American heritage brand Mitchell and Ness, and now there with us and look as good as we were hoping. I went over the brand's history in that blog so I won't bang on about that now, just let it be said that these lot have been making sports apparel since before your grandaddy was an itch in your great grandaddys nut sack...a long time.

For this reason their output is of the highest quality as these snapbacks prove. The selection of team graphics is lacking NFL teams at the moment but the word from the distributors is that the cogs are turning on that one and in the meantime we've got the best logos the NBA and NFL have to offer embroidered onto the best constructed caps in the game.

Here's a few shots of the one's that have proved the most popular so far on the shop floor...

Mitchell and Ness Los Angeles Kings 2 Tone Snapback Cap
This LA Kings hat is a true classic. Straight back to the days of Tupac being alive and Snoop being far from a reality TV star. UK brand King Apparel paid homage to this design with their 'East London Kings' snapback earlier this year and they did a good job, but you can't beat the original.

Mitchell and Ness Sacromento Kings Arch Snapback Cap
We have several hats in with this layout of arched varsity lettering with the logo in front. The Sacromento Kings are not one of the best known teams this side of the Atlantic but its popularity can be explained by the dope colour combination and the sharpness of the logo. It's one of my favourites. Got a true retro feel to it.

All of these new hats have the Mitchell and Ness logo embroidered over the size adjuster at the back.

Mitchell and Ness San Antonio Spurs Arch Snapback Cap

The NBA logoman is doing his thing on the side of this San Antonio Spurs hat and indeed all the basketball team hats with the NHL shield being on the hockey ones.
These next two aren't from particularly big teams but I thought they were particularly good examples of some of the dope colours these caps come in...

Mitchell and Ness Dallas Mavericks Arch Snapback Cap

This Mavericks one looks really premium in the gren and blue with the embroidery shining. Dope.
Mitchell and Ness Toronto Raptors Arch Snapback Cap

I'm not really up on Canadian basketball and have never heard of the Raptors but their graphics looks heavy on a Mitchell and Ness snapback. Check out our M and N section to check out the rest of the selection in detail and the word is that there's another drop coming in early autumn so kepp your ears down and your heads up.
