Mishka Spring/Summer '11 drop douce

The second drop for this season from those crazy Brooklyn cats, Mishka NYC and although there were some real winners in the first I reckon this lot has got it beat.  The usual mix of outlandish graphics and top quality cut and sew are prevalent throughout the drop and the colour palette used is well considered and perfectly compliments the designs.

Let's start with our old pally the Death Adder. I don't know the original inspiration for this angry snake/bear monster but as a striking image he definitely fits the bill. I think it's the symmetry of his face that makes the graphic such a satisfying design... and the fact that he's got the look of someone you would not f**k with helps a lot.

Here's himself on the 'Oversized Death Adder' tee. I'm often a fan of a big print on a tee and this one works a treat. It emphasizes the design and boosts the impact of an outfit...

I mentioned the quality of Mishka's cut and sew earlier and this 'Oversized Death Adder' crewneck is an excellent example of a truly premium piece. There has been true attention to detail in the construction of these crews. The material is heavyweight and incredibly soft to the touch and the fleece lining makes it so goddamn comfy it makes you feel a little bit high...and they look heavy to boot.

These next two crews are of the same quality and have the same intoxicating effect when worn.
This is the 'Heatseeker' and has some excellent embroidery work across the front.

Mishka Heatseeker Crewneck Black

I really like that cyan they've used. It glows against the black. This next one is called the 'Cryillic Embroidery' crew. Really subtle branding on this one, just the small logo on the left chest and a tonal embroidered Bearmop on the back neck. Elbow patches complete the simple look.

Mishka Cyrillic Embroidery Crewneck Black

This next 'High Impact II' tee plays on the idea of the 'Death Adders' being a pro sports team...some sort of team anyway. Liking the colours and the retro 3D rendering of the text.

A Mishka drop would not be complete without at least one appearence of that infamous graffiti bear the Bearmop. Here he is having been given the Ghostbuster style slime treatment on the 'Slime Mop' tee.

The other core graphic that Mishka are always applying to their output is the Keep Watch eyeball with it's glaring stare and throbbing veins. In my humble opinion it always works best on a hat and here it is on this 'Keep Watch' melton wool New Era fitted.

Mishka Keep Watch New Era Cap Grey

Last but by no means least is this tonal 'Death Adder' placed nicely on the front of a New Era. You know how Mishka do.

LRG trees and tees

lrg

I know these LRG tees have been up on the site for a little while now but I think they're still worthy of talking about...so sorry for the tardiness.

LRG, as I'm sure you're aware, always use nature and in particular trees as a major influence on their graphic output. There main logo is a tree, they're always referencing smoking trees and every drop is full of roots and trees. This latest selection, with a few variations, sticks to this theme with some shining results.

Let's start with the most simple and clean cut of these latest designs, the 'Little Trees' tee. The monotone design of a smooth tree silhouette with the swirly 'L' sits nicely on the centre front, with the solid white contrasting nicely against the navy blue of the fabric. No messing about with this, just pure LRG asthetics...

LRG Little Trees T Shirt Navy Blue
This next 'Lifted Company Knit' tee expands on the tree concept by having other logos (such as the ever present geeraffe) and text make up the shape of a tree in LRG's rasta inspired colour palette. The design is applied to the tee as an extremely intricate embroidery which really brings out the shape and means you're tee stays looking fresh for longer than a screenprint.

Moving onto a more illustrative style print now with the 'Robot Panda' tee. The tree is still present but this time being devoured by a metallic bear who is wired into a robotic L,R and G. It has the look of a guest artist illustration but there is no print on the hem stating so.

One design that is definitely part of the Artist Series, and has been rendered by Pose of Loss Prevention (who did the sick 'Concrete Jungle' tee a couple of seasons ago), is this 'Bushwhacker' tee. The LRG evergreen has been given cartoon style muscular arms which makes a pretty surreal image. The white on black brings it out nicely I reckon.

You may notice that the right hand is giving the finger. LRG were clearly worried that you might not notice this and have given it a tee all to itself just incase: the 'Lend A Hand'.

The smoothness of the lines on this illustration is heavy. A bit Disney in the style of rendering.
That's all I've got time for today. Check out the rest of our wide range of LRG gear here.

A whole load of snapbacks from The Hundreds!

The Hundreds

The snapback cap is big at the moment, gaining ground against the New Era fitted which has had a monopoly over Street fashion for years. It's been said that everything in fashion comes back around and the late eighties, early nineties styling of the pro-sport snapback is back.

The Hundreds have been at the forefront of the resurgence, producing several dope snapback designs that they have released in wide array of colour-ways for several seasons now. There tactic has been to blend their own unique branding with that of professional sports teams from the days of Micheal Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal and Ice Cube rocking an LA Raiders hat in 'Boyz 'N The Hood'. This has produced some heavy designs that have a look of an instant classic.

At 5 Pointz we've just received a big drop of these hats in the latest colour-ways and there's some true winners in this lot. Let's start with the 'Raidurrs' snapback which represents that aforementioned retro LA pro-sports look perfectly. This premise of representing the brand as a team that is worthy of your support is an idea that has been picked up by several brands. Mishka have there 'Death Adders' and The Hundreds have themselves as the home-team.

The Hundreds Raidurrs Snapback Cap Green

I like the calm tone of the green and blue on this one. Adds to the classic look. If you prefer your hats to be a bit louder we've got two more colour-ways for you to choose from. Up next is the 'Team Two', which is again steeped in LA pro-sports heritage. This has definitely been the most popular snapback from The Hundreds in the last few years and these latest colour palettes definitely do it justice.

The Hundreds Team Two Snapback Cap Black

Boom! Now there is a sick looking piece of headwear. That sports league style bomb logo on the the side is a brilliant detail.
This next 'Basic' hat moves away from the sports team thing and is focussed more on The Hundred's own clean-cut graphics, using their own Basic logo in a selection of bright colours. Simple and to the point this one. Works a treat...

The Hundreds Basic Snapback Cap Black

This next 'Merit' hat is not in stock yet but is COMING SOON.  It's going for a more military regalia look this one, a style often used by 10 Deep.  I really like the detailed crest design with a Box Adam right in the middle and you get a bunch of embroidered patches on the side too...

That's all for now people. Be sure to chech out the rest of our selection from The Hundreds right here. Finally in snapback related news we're are currently in negotiation to recieve our first drop of retro sports team snapbacks from American heritage brand MITCHELL & NESS. There are top quality and we're getting a wide selection of 'em. Watch this space for more details...

Ichiban Crewnecks

Ichiban

Here at 5 Pointz we’re always glad to support young, up and coming UK brands...but the product has got to be of a standard that will compete with the more established names.  Ichiban is one such label.  They’re still quite a small operation, producing only tees and crews, but they’re ideas and subsequent designs seems to always be on the money.

We’ve just recieved a drop of Ichiban crews and they are looking dope, while sporting a reasonable price tag. Most of these designs have been seen before on tees, but subtle changes have been made and the dark heather grey has never been available in the tees and it gives the graphics a new look.

Let's start with the most popular of Ichiban designs so far, the 'Get Money' crew. This one in particular works really nicely against the grey, as aforementioned. The play on the graphics from a certain well known boardgame is inspired. The joke appeals to people from all backgrounds and lets you choose what message to take from it.... By the way, the word on the grapevine is that some 'Get Money' snapbacks are coming our way. This is by no means a done deal but we'll keep you posted.

Ichiban Get Money Crewneck Sweater Grey

All of these crews have a premium feel to them and like I said earlier are extremely reasonable for such a piece at £49.99. Next up is the 'Fresh Cuts' print which was new to the latest season and has proved almost as popular as the 'Get Money' print. It's another play on well known phrases associated with Street/Urban culture. The crossed meat cleavers, bold type and monotone colourway make this design really stand out. We've currently got the same design on a 4ft x 5ft banner in our shop window and it looks just as heavy at that scale. The layout, with the small design on the front left chest with a similar but larger print on the back, is reminisscent of eighties surfwear brands and is really popular in Streetwear at the moment.

Ichiban seem to, as well as always planting hunour in their artwork, often have a strong political/social message in their too. This next 'Currency Wars' design definitely fits that bill. With portraits of world leaders (as featured on the currency of their country) placed onto the bodies of gun toting gangsters, this design has nothing good to say about the current global economic sitiuation. It also just looks dope, of course.

Ichiban Currency Wars Crewneck Sweater Black

Early nineties American pro sports graphics is big at the moment. Just look at the growing popularity of retro snapback caps featuring the names and logos of the biggest teams of that era. One of these teams id of course the Chicago Bulls, who with the help of Mr Jordan were at the top of the game during ths period. Ichiban have put theoir own twist on this latest fashion with the 'No Bull' design. Another humourous take on a graphical icon and again the red, black and white colour palette works well against the dark heather.

Ichiban No Bull Crewneck Sweater Grey

There isn't humour in every Ichiban design. Some are just well considered pieces of artwork. This next 'Skyline' piece is one of these and is definitely repping the UK with it's London skyline photo print behind the lettering. There's definitely some DKNY influence on this one.

Ichiban Skyline Crewneck Sweater Black

Skulls are a common (and maybe overplayed) theme in Streetwear graphics, Street Art and graffiti, but this 'Killing Time' design puts a different slant on the idea, by merging a clockface with a skull and crossbones. I don't really know what the message is...perhaps that time is precious, so don't waste it. Simple.

That's all for now people. Check out our Ichiban section here for the rest of our selection.

Yet more sick tees from The Hundreds

The Hundreds

Fresh in this week is another drop of gear from The Hundreds, including a load of wicked new tee designs. The Hundreds' tees are always top drawer in the way they fit and how they keep their shape and quality of print for much longer than a lot of other brands. They're definitely a good investment and the graphics is always strong.  Humour plays a strong role in a lot of their designs along with a heavy dose of California culture.

This 'Squares' tee plays with the Box Adam logo that has been cropping up frequently in The Hundreds' output. He is replicated in a grid pattern that fills the front of the piece. I'm always a fan of oversized prints on the front of tees and this one is a banger.  It's part modern art and all Adam.

The Hundreds Squares T Shirt Black

It seems to have become a thing with The Hundreds that they have at least one tee per season consisting of a photo print of a hot girl with their branding placed across it. Here at 5 Pointz we have no problem with this recent trend and long may it continue. This 'Jean' tee is the latest item to fulfill this criteria. The only complaint I've heard so far is that the print isn'e quite big enough...some people are never happy. The bomb logo on the back neck is the same colour as the logos across the print.

The Hundreds Jean T Shirt Black

I mentioned earlier how The Hundreds often like to put humour into their designs and this 'Chef' tee is a perfect example of this. The joke is simple: The chef is in one piece on the front and has been blown away on the back. He is no more..an ex chef...gone to the big kitchen in the sky. Pure slapstick. I really rate the style of the illustration on this one. It's extremely reminiscent of the 1950's Hanna Barbera cartoons like The Jetsons and The Flintstones etc. Nicely done.

Another one that has that touch of humour is this 'Island' tee. Rendered in the style of an old postcard with a beach scene laid out to look like everybody's favourite bomb with a biblical name...

The Hundreds Island T Shirt White

I never really enjoyed things like The Scouts when I was a kid, but if the The Hundreds had been running the show then it might have seemed more interesting. This 'Honor' tee takes it influence directly from that famous boys club and is decorated with badges for achievements such as 'stealing thunder, swallowing the leader, finding strength in numbers, burning bridges, and generally repping TH.'  The back sports a large print of a Scouts-esque crest with Box Adam making an appearance again.

The Hundreds Honor T Shirt

The Hundreds Honor T Shirt

This last one, the 'Basically' tee, is indeed basic but needs nothing else added. The colours used to fill the logo work perfectly against the black. Job done...

Now isn't that a dope drop. As ever, be sure to check out our 'The Hundreds' section for loads more winners.
