Mishka Spring/Summer '11 drop one

Mishka

Mishka
is a streetwear brand unlike any other. It's influences seem to be far removed from that of any of it's competitors and that's what makes it truly unique.  As well as constantly adapting their core imagery, as with all brands, they also allow themselves to go down weird and wonderful creative avenues.

With this in mind lets take a look at the first Spring/Summer drop from these New York oddballs...

The Death Adders Road and Track (D.A.R.T) collection by Mishka is a line dedicated to the world of fixed gear biking which has become rather popular with them youths of late. Mishka sponsor their own team of riders who go by the same name..this 'D.A.R.T World' tee combines the Death Adder and the biking theme with a nice retro feel (with the seventies typeface) and a bold combination of colours to make sure you don't forget it's Mishka...

Earlier I was talking about the core imagery of brands and one of the most prominent for Mishka is the infamous Bearmop. There has been many variations on the design over the years but many would agree that the original has never been beaten, which is why Mishka often return to it and why we've got him on this 'Bearmop' tee...

Another image that has been featured on hundreds of Mishka's products over the years the bloodshot Keep Watch eyeball. On this 'Keep Watch Crest' the eyeball has been given a grand international look. Mishka says on their site that it's to show that you can 'Watch this brand expand like your dick in your hand.'

One of the best memories I have from my childhood is the day I inherited my older cousins collection of Garbage Pail Kids cards. She'd out grown them and I was clearly in awe of them so she gave me the lot. Those were the days... Anyway, it's for this reason that I love this next tee. Mishka have invented their own Garbage Pail Kid and stuck a big print of him on the front of this 'GPKill with Power' tee. Fooking dope.

As I mentioned in my last blog The Hundreds seem to have the Snapback market locked up at the moment but Mishka seem to be giving them a good run for their mular. The Pepsi to their Coke. This 'High Impact' snapback is a prime example. The design embroidered on the front is similar to a tee of the same name released last year and work really well on a hat. The embroidered Death Adder on the side is a nice addition...

Mishka High Impact Snapback Cap Grey

Not too long ago the mere mention of a Starter cap would have a streetwear head laughing at you so hard a wet patch would appear on their crotch. However the tides have turned and a lot of the best brands are now producing collaborative hats with the once uncool hat manufacturer. Funny how these things go. Mishka is one of these brands and this is the 'Cryillic Pro' Starter cap, featuring good ol' Keep Watch eyeball again...

That's all for part one of this line people. There are other colour versions of these featured pieces in our Mishka section and stay tuned for more strange but enticing stuff from those Brooklyn boys soon.

10 Deep Spring/Summer '11

10 Deep

The first drop from the 10 Deep Spring/Summer collection is here and looking strong.  As usual the New York brand presents a very solid offering with some fantastic signature pieces.  Easy to wear styles are combined with just the right amount of details and accents to make them stand out of the crowd as a 10 Deep piece. There is a strong theme throughout of American patriotism with an ironic twist.

Let's start with the 'Victory' jacket which is from a capsule collection of the same name.  The letterman varsity jacket is a design that has been reworked by nearly all of the big brands in streetwear and the trend has been to decorate them heavily with print, embroidery and patches. This has led to many of them seeming overdone and too busy. With this piece 10 Deep have kept it simple and this has payed off. The winged 'X' logo looks really strong on it's own.

Also from this line is the 'Victory' crew, which is reminiscent of several 10 Deep pieces from past collections with it's detailed patches embroidered to the sleeve and Knuckle Duster flag on the left chest. It's heavy cotton, fleeced lining and hand pockets on the side seam make this a truly premium piece.

Earlier I mentioned the twisted patriotism that is apparent in this line and this 'F##k Yeah' tee is a prime example. It does exactly what it says on the tin this one. Stars, stripes and expletives! It reminds me of the 'America! Fuck Yeah!' song from Team America by Matt Stone and Trey Parker of South Park fame.

...and there's a matching 'America! 5 Panel' snapback hat.

10 Deep America! 5 Panel Snapback Cap Khaki

This next 'Home and Abroad' tee is a more serious take on the patriotism thing. It features a large print made up of three photos placed in a coloumn. The top image is of two WW2 soldiers during cambat, the center is an army camp with the flag flying at full mast, and the bottom is of a Hells Angel biker gang in mid flight. Along the bottom is the phrase 'At war at home and abroad.'  I'm guessing it is supposed to show how along with the obvious conflicts America has to undertake with other countries it is also constantly dealing with internal clashes between groups who chose to live their lives in different ways...or something like that. Wicked tee anyway.

10 Deep Home and Abroad T Shirt Black

This next 'Collegiate' tee is less politically themed and more about loud ,strong college style lettering. There's a big 'D' on the front, a 'P' on the back and an 'E' on each sleeve. At first we thought the idea was that you spell 'DEEP' if you span around on the spot...but of course you'd spell 'DEPE', so that doesn't work. You get the idea though. Big up all the dyslexic crew!

10 Deep Home and Abroad T Shirt Black

Another tee that sticks to the tried and tested strong graphics route is this 'Rolling Thunder' number with it's Knuckle Duster logos in three equally sized boxes of differing colours. A really stand out design using core graphics in a new way.

10 Deep 'cut & sew' is at the top of the game. The quality and attention to detail is apparent as soon as you try a piece on. Their shirts in particular are a pleasure to wear and this latest 'Appalachia'  number is no exception. With its bright plaid pattern and subtle branding this is another winner...

10 Deep Appalachia L / S Shirt Red

Another thing 10 Deep are very good at is making 5 panel racing caps. The 'Navigator' with it's script logos down either side panel and varying pattern throughout has been a hit for several seasons and we've got a few brand new versions with this drop...

That's all for now. Check out the rest of our 10 Deep selection in our section now...

The Hundreds bring the sunshine...

The Hundreds

As we all know The Hundreds hail from Los Angeles, California and this means that the lucky bastards get blazing sunshine nearly every day of the goddamn year.  You just have to check out the pics on their blog to see how common blue skies are in their world.  Instead of festering in a dank pool of jealously though perhaps we should appreciate the effect that these conditions have on their creative output. Their new Spring/Summer line is full of enough sunshine to fight back against our British drizzle.

A prime example of this Summer feel is the 'Champs' crewneck with it's photo print of a beach sunset and spaced out typography. The photo was taken by Mr Bobby Hundreds himself and along with being typically Californian also looks dope on the front of this crew... as it does on the 'Champ 2' tee which we also have in stock.  As with all pieces from The Hundreds there has been great effort put into the materials and construction of this crew and it really shows. With the 340 GSM brushed cotton/polyester, fleeced lining and hand pockets along the side seam this a premium item and you can feel that as soon as you put it on.

Another piece that is sporting a Bobby Hundreds original is the 'Mirage' tee. This time facing into the desert rather than out to sea and with the box logo across the middle this one make you feel a bit warmer just looking at it. Photo prints seem to be getting more popular with several brands (Diamond Supply Co., and 10 Deep to name just two) and I think it's a theme that really works.

The Hundreds Mirage T Shirt Black

Heading back to the beach now, but in a more illustrative style, with the 'Chola' tee. A Chola is apparently a Latina chick who wears lots of eyeliner, baggy pants and chucks and hangs out with the bad boys. A pure LA thing.  The girl in this illustration is based on the Model and friend of The Hundreds, Shay Maria and was designed by artist Les Toil.

You can't have a drop from The Hundreds without there being an ingenious re'working of ol' Adam Bomb in there somewhere. This time round they've cut him up into jigsaw pieces on this 'Puzzled' tee. I don't know if this is a comment on his fragile mental state but it looks sick...

The Hundreds Puzzled T Shirt Powder Blue

This powder blue colour-way is present throughout the tees in this drop and it a nice variation away from the standard colours. This next 'Yonder' tee (which we also have in powder blue) is a play on the logo of outerwear company Patagonia. The colours used across the sky works really well in all three colour-ways that we have in stock...

The Hundreds Yonder T Shirt Ash Heather

Adam Bomb features again here, on the 'Square Tonal Adam' tee, but in a more subtle tonal way and neatly tucked into a box. This one's got a real summertime look I think and the tonal thing works really nicely...

The Hundreds Square Tonal Adam T Shirt Ash Heather

The snapback cap is big and getting bigger and The Hundreds seem to be at the front of the pack for winning snapback designs. This next three tone 'Adam Snap' with a full colour Adam on the front is definitely one of these. Any New Era that's had himself on it has been a big seller so his first Snapback appearence is bound to go down a storm...

The Hundreds Adam Snap Snapback Cap Navy

Another one that is bound to fly of the shelves and onto the bonce's of streetwear heads everywhere is this 'Solid Logo' number. Nice and simple. Can't go wrong...

The Hundreds Solid Logo Snapback Cap Red

Here's a nifty Adam based design on a New Era for you on the 'Panels' fitted cap. Again in a subtle, tonal colour-way, with Mr Bomb featuring on every other panel around the hat. Dope...

The Hundreds Panels New Era Cap Blue

Last but not least for this blog is this 'Petrol' long sleeved shirt. As mentioned earlier The Hundreds are very good at producing a premium product when it comes to 'cut & sew' and their shirts inparticular are always well considered and of the highest quality. Really nice spacious plaid pattern on this one...

The Hundreds Petrol L / S Shirt Black

That's it for now people. There's plenty more dope wears in our The Hundreds section though...
